Word meanings

Readings and English definitions come from JMdict/EDICT, a project of the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group, used under CC BY-SA 4.0. We reach it through Jisho.org.

Example sentences

Example sentences and their translations come from Tatoeba, used under CC BY 2.0 FR. Tatoeba's sentences are written by volunteers; a sentence on one of your cards was written by one of them, not by us.

Kanji details

Stroke counts, readings, meanings and grade levels for individual kanji come from kanjiapi.dev, which builds on KANJIDIC2 from the same EDRDG project, also under CC BY-SA 4.0.

Audio

Spoken Japanese is read by a voice already installed in your browser or operating system, through the standard Web Speech API. No audio is sent to or from us; which voices you have depends on your own device.

Everything else

The app, its design, its starter packs and the breakdowns written for its cards are the work of Samuel Andersen. Payments run through Stripe, and email through Resend. See also the privacy policy and the terms of service.
